River levels have peaked and are now falling steadily at the Buildwas and Bridgnorth river gauges following Storm Darragh. However, flooding of roads and farmland continues. We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the river from Shrewsbury to Upper Arley. Locations that may be affected are Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth. Floodplain at Leighton starts to fill.
Observed peaks:- Welshbridge 4.13m on Monday morning 09/12/24, Buildwas 5.52m Monday overnight, 10/12/24 and Bridgnorth 4.61m Tuesday morning, 10/12/24.
Flood water could be deep and fast flowing, and therefore pose a risk to life. No further rainfall is forecast. We expect river levels to remain high in the coming days. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences.
