Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster

Rising river levels throughout the afternoon may lead to flooding. Flooding is possible from 2:00 PM on 15/07/2025. Areas most at risk are the rivers around Ambleside with flooding also possible around Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster and other watercourses, from Grasmere to Grange-over-Sands including, Skelwith Bridge, Windermere, Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cark and Cartmel. Weather conditions are expected to improve throughout the evening . We are closely monitoring the situation and checking rivers for blockages. We will issue flood warnings if required. Consider activating any property flood protection products.  Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.
